Fereshta is an Actress whose been acting since age seven. Yes, she
happens to be Afghan-American, but that identity is only a piece of all the
things that make Fereshta an excellent and gifted Actress. As an Artist,
Fereshta transcends her culture and knows intuitively that our true selves
are never bound by cultural, national or religious confines. Nevertheless,
as a proponent of honest self-expression, she cannot leave the dramatic and
often painful events in this era of Afghan culture unexamined. It would be
simply irresponsible. Fereshta was well versed and performing the works of
famed playwritght Eugene O'Neil by the time she was only fifteen. O'Neil was
the first American playwright to break the mold of writing plays merely for
entertainment, but those that reflected O'Neil's inner demons of the world
he lived in. Like O'Neil, Fereshta has struggled though Art, to grapple with
the long standing Afghan cutlural taboos which have gripped her and her
Afghan generation. All you Afghans have lived with this and you know it in
the depths of your hearts, so respect Fereshta's honest myspace profile.
Just after high shcool, Fereshta won an Acting and Academic scholarship to
study Acting and Literature in NYC. It was the path less travelled and
truely has made all the difference. After a number of years in NYC, working
on Chekov, Moliere, Shakespeare, Sam Shepphard, and so many more, Fereshta
made a bold move to add some academic diciplines to her sphere of knowledge.
She went to the University of California to study Classical Philosophy and
Cultural Anthropology; these only added to her repotire as an Artist.
Afterwards, Fereshta headed to LA where she spent a number of years trying
to break into the business while also doing a stint in law school. Suddenly,
in the middle of her Master's In Acting Program, Fereshta landed her first
major audition for the female lead in Dreamwork's "The Kite Runner". Yes,
there was a casting call for all Afghans for that role, but only one Afghan
female made it past the callbacks to the final selection of three women who
were considered for the part. Neither of the other two women considered for
the part were Afghan-American, only Fereshta. She didn't get the part, but
this was NO Ending for Fereshta, but merely a BEGINNING. She lives works in
law and as an actress in LA. Fereshta is a family oriented gal who comes
from a strong family who supports her choices. check out her scenes,
